Potential of Corporate Responsibility discussed at PU

Chandigarh, March 20, 2019: Department of Life Long Learning & Extension(DLLL&E), Panjab University organized a One-day Training Programme for the students on the theme “Potential of Corporate Responsibility: Students as Users and Beneficiaries”, here today.
Sh.Vikram Nayyar, Finance and Development Officer, Panjab University while delivering the Keynote address said that Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) is a form of Corporate Self Regulation integrated into Business model. He cited some companies like Tissco, Ambuja Cement, Usha Sri Ram, Birla, Airtel Bharti etc., who are contributing a lot towards Social Welfare. He disclosed that these big business houses are ready to provide grant for socially relevant activities especially to educational institutions but it is the NGOs who manage to get big share of their grants. He motivated the Chairpersons and Faculty present, to prepare relevant Projects for these companies. He advocated for strong Industry- University Partnership. He advised Chairpersons to have persons from Industry on their Board of Studies.
Dr. Ajaib Singh, Former Director & Head, DLLL&E advised the department to adopt communities in villages and slums and do meaningful and useful programme for them. Prof.Karamjeet Singh, Registrar, Panjab University while delivering his Presidential address, highlighted that it is in the D.N.A. of every Indian, to do Philanthropy; it may be in the form of time, money and resources. Sharing with have- nots does not hamper one’s own prosperity. He quoted the tradition of ‘Langar’ and ‘Daswand’ i.e. contributing for the welfare of the Community.
Dr. Bharat, University Institute of Legal Studies, emphasized on the segregation of dry and wet waste, as the first step towards C.S.R. activity for students. He advised them to reform the community to perform better.
Dr. Prabhdip Brar, Chairperson, University Institute of Fashion Technology, cited the example of 3R’s to motivate the students to Reduce, Reuse and Recycle all the things that they use. She also listed a number of small projects from field of Fashion Industry that the students can take advantage of and use it to raise the quality of life of people and bring smile on their faces.
Dr. Gaurav Gaur, Center for Social Work, enlisted the various activities that students of Centre for Social Work are already undertaking for the Community. He also cited the examples of companies like Larson & Turbo, who are contributing towards enriching the lives of people. He also disclosed, how students can take benefit from the corporates to fund their education and academics.
In the Post-Lunch Session, Prof. Sween and Dr. Avnish Sharma enumerated the different activities that students can take up as their Corporate Social Responsibilities. They can help in Skill generation and awareness generation. Prof.Sween extorted the students to become the volunteers for such activities. They were asked to share their knowledge and skills with marginalized communities in their vicinity.
Each participating students prepared a Project on different thematic areas like Sanitation, Education, Coaching, Vocational Skill Impartation, Conservation of Environment, Gender Equality, Women Empowerment, Protection of National Heritage, Rural Sports, etc. Students pledged to launch these Projects on the ground after their examination.
