Police introduce “one way traffic system” in Dharamshala
Dharamshala, September 22, 2019: Vimukt Ranjan, SP, Kangra district of Himachal has ordered a One Way Traffic System in Dharamshala for the vehicles moving between Dharamshala-McLeodganj and Dharamshala-Khaniyara as notified by District Magistrate under section 115 of Motor Vehicle Act 1988 initially for 30 days with effect from September to get rid of unwanted traffic jams in the city. Vimukt Ranjan said, “It is intimated in the public interest that there has been a gradual increase in the volume of traffic in Dharamshala. Being a busy tourist hill station, the average footfall of vehicles has increased many folds over the years which are not commensurate with the increase in the capacity of existing and new roads. As a result, Dharamshala town is witnessing frequent and long traffic jams which are causing inconvenience to local people as well as to the tourists. Being a hilly terrain, there is limited scope for the creation of new arterial roads or even for the widening of existing roads. Therefore, the only and best possible solution to tackle this problem is the formulation of One Way Traffic Plan for Dharamshala town.” He said that small and medium vehicles going from Dharamshala towards McLeodganj shall move either via Kotwali Bazar- Khada Danda or via Dharamshala Cantt to McLeodganj. And while coming from McLeodganj to Dharamshala shall move either via Khada Danda Road, Session House, Deputy Commissioner Residence, Bye Pass road to Gandhi Chowk or via Dharamshala Cantonment -Bye Pass road to Gandhi Chowk. No vehicles coming from McLeodganj to Dharamshala shall not enter Kotwali Bazar. And all heavy vehicles from Dharamshala to McLeodganj shall move via Gandhi Chowk, Bye Pass road, Dharamshala Cantt to McLeodganj and will follow the same route while coming back. He further said that all vehicles going from Dharamshala to Khanyara shall move via Gandhi Chowk, Kotwali Bazar, Fountain Chowk, Khanyara Road to Khanyara. And while coming back small and medium vehicles shall be diverted from Ghamru Bridge to Shukla Nursing Home to Baba Medical Store. The Road from Ghamru Bridge to T-point where it connects with Shyam Nagar Road shall now be a “no parking zone”. Heavy vehicles coming from Khanyara to Dharamshala shall follow the route via Darnu to Dari near ITI to Dharamshala. He said, “One Way Traffic Plan shall remain in operation from 08:00AM to 08:00PM every day. Emergency vehicles, two wheelers and ambulance can ply anywhere.”
