Dharamsala, March 10, 2013: On the occasion of the 54th anniversary of the Tibetan National Uprising Day’s demonstration  one young Tibetan Dawa Dhondup tried to attempt a self –immolation  near DC Office in Dharamsala when the security persons of the Himachal police acted promptly to restrict him from doing so.

He was arrested and a case under section 309 was registered against him.

Dondup is 30 years of age and came to India from Tibet in 2004. His parents and other family members are still in Tibet.

Balbir Thakur, SSP, Kangra said, “The man named Dhondup first drank petrol in the area where Tibetans were protesting and then sprinkled petrol over him. Smelling the foul play cops on duty captured him. He was referred to Tanda medical college, where he is reported out of danger.”

Thakur said that such incident never happened in Dharamsala though Tibetans used to demonstrate several times.

He said, “Keeping in view this incident, it shall now be difficult for the police to allow them for procession and demonstration.”

Police said that Dhondup is doing the business of selling ‘Stoos’ in McLeodganj.
