Police Chief Starts Village Level Meetings, Visit Villages Of Faridkot District

Faridkot, April 7, 2016: Punjab DGP Mr.Suresh Arora has launched a unique anti drugs campaign of State police by holding village level meetings to get real feedback regarding the prevailing situation of drug trafficking and drug addiction in the state villages. On the inaugural day, the Police Chief interacted with the residents of villages Chahal and Dhudhi of Faridkot district .
During interaction with students of Baba Farid Law College, Faridkot, the DGP said that after breaking the supply chain with huge recoveries and nabbing major smugglers, the State police was now concentrating on getting feedback from the cutting edge level i.e. general public so that the required measures could be put in place to check the drug menace more effectively. He revealed that under this scheme besides he himself visiting villages across the state, SP and above rank officers will cover all villages and prominent localities of urban areas in next three months and today on the inaugural day 161 villages have been visited by field officers which includes 7 by Zonal IGPs, 14 by Range DIGs, 72 by SSPs and 68 by SPs. Under this campaign, SP rank officers posted in the districts will cover 50-60 villages in a month, SSP rank officers 40-50 villages ,DIG/Ranges 40 villages in a , IGP Zones & Commissioner of Police 30-35 such villages & localities in urban areas. Similarly, senior officers of different wings including those from headquarters will also be deputed for covering such areas, he added.
The Police Chief said that the purpose of this campaign was to cover all villages in Punjab in coming three months so that not only exact feedback could be extracted but also the general public should be motivated to make their contribution in fight against the drugs. The State police will take required corrective measures to keep Punjab free of drugs. He exhorted the students to play proactive role in wiping out the menace of drugs from the sacred soil of Punjab by not only saying no to drugs but also creating awareness against curse drug addiction.
The DGP informed that Punjab Police would soon procure 40 highly trained sniffer dogs and funds for this purpose have been already sanctioned by the Chief Minister. He said that one each such sniffer dog has already been provided to Commissionerate Police Ludhiana, Batala, SBS Nagar, Ludhiana (Rural) and SAS Nagar so that on one side search operations regarding any information of drug trafficking could be undertaken effectively and their services could also be utilized during Nakas’ to ascertain whether there was any movement of drugs on the other. The DGP, who was accompanied by Mr. Ishwar Singh, IGP-cum-Director, State Narcotic Control Bureau, SSP Sukhminder Singh Mann, also interacted with Police officers/officials. On this occassion Chairman Baba Farid Law College S. Inderjit Singh Khalsa, Maheep Singh Sekhon and Principal of Law college also present.
