Ludhiana, October 16, 2019: An assessment of the performance of the RSS patronized BJP government proves that it has failed to do anything good for the people. Such serious economic growth deficit has not happened in the past several decades.
Abhijit Banerjee, a product of Jawahar Lal Nehru University and Nobel Laureate in Economics, has said that we can only pray for India's economic situation. Now the Reserve Bank itself is saying that in the coming years, the country's GDP rate will be 6.1, while earlier it was said that it would be closer to 8. It is interesting to note that the husband of finance minister Nirmala Sitaraman has asked the government to learn from former Prime Minister Manmohan Singh to bring back economy. The withdrawal of Rs.176,000 crores from the Reserve Bank recently, which is taken only in special emergency situations, and never so large a sum has been taken earlier, reflects the state of the economy of the country. The promise of giving 2 crore jobs every year has proved to be a sham; If that promise had been fulfilled, there would have been a job of 10 crore unemployed youth by now. On the contrary, the unemployment rate is rising steadily.
These views were expressed by the Communist Party of India Ludhiana Distt. Secretary D P Maur, at a party’s Pole Khol rally held party in Ludhiana. The rally was presided over by Comrades Gurnam Sidhu, Kulwant Kaur, Gurnam Gill and Surinder Singh Jalaldiwal. Com Maur further said that the promise of putting Rs 15 lakh each in the pocket of every family during the election of the year was termed as a Jumla. More than 100 people died while standing in queues during demonetization. As a result of demonetization more than one million medium and small units were closed, leaving more than 5 crore jobs loss. The business is collapsing and the economic depression has increased after the way the GST was implemented. The auto sector and textile sector have witnessed a sharp decline. Industrial growth has declined by 1.1 percent. Agriculture is in serious crisis and farmers are constantly committing suicide. The condition of the farm laborers is constantly deteriorating.
Dr Arun Mitra Asstt. Secretary CPI Ludhiana said that in fact, this government is very much in the service of the corporate elite. The clear example of this is that corporate debt has been waived by over 3 lakh crores rupees. The tax imposed on them was reduced, which would increase the burden of Rs 1.46 lakh crore by direct and indirect taxes on ordinary citizens of the country. Rafale deal was taken away from the public sector company the Hindustan Aeronautics Ltd., which has successfully built aircrafts for many years. Labour laws have been changed and made pro corporate taking away the rights of workers. Pension scheme is abolished. The Code of Wages and Occupational Safety bills are totally against the interests of workers. The ESI scheme is being diluted. Railway is being privatized. Country’s wealth has been concentrated in the hands of 1 % population. That terrorism will end after demonetization turned out to be totally false. The situation in Kashmir has gone worse with the government's policies. Our young soldiers are suffering the consequences of government’s policies. Elimination of Article 370 without consultation with the people of Kashmir and making the state a Union Territory, democracy is being eroded and the country's federal infrastructure is being weakened. The government came to power in 2014 by accusing the previous government of corruption and scandals. But big scams are happening under this government. Over 60 people were killed due Vypam scam in Madhya Pradesh; Punjab National Bank scandal by Nirav Modi,; IPL scam by Lalit Modi; Vijay Mallya scandal are examples.
Com Chamkaur Singh – Asstt. Secretary CPI Ludhiana said that in the name of cow protection and love jihad inhuman acts are being carried out by gangs. The whole conspiracy is to divide society on communal lines. Attacks on Dalits and minorities are on the rise. He demanded that steps should be taken to correct the farmers' issues, agriculture labour issues, Ensure widows and old age pension, terminate the contract system and ensure that all employees, including ASHA workers and Aanganwadi workers, should be regularized. He demanded steps to improve the deteriorating industry condition. Health services and education should be made accessible to all.
Comrades Ramesh Ratan and M S Bhatia compeered the stage. Others who addressed the rally were comrades Gurmel Meldey, Charan Sarabha, Bhagwan Singh, Jagdish Bobby, Deepak Kumar.
