Plastic Surgery Day observed at DMCH

Ludhiana, July 15, 2016: Plastic Surgery Day was observed today in DMCH by Department of Plastic Surgery. In his address, Dr Sanjeev Uppal (Professor & Head of Plastic Surgery) said that the purpose of observing Plastic Surgery Day is to make general public aware of various services being offered in the field of Plastic Surgery.
Normally, when we talk about Plastic Surgery it usually strikes in the mind of people that Plastic Surgery is related to different cosmetic procedures including Hair Transplant Surgery, Rhinoplasty (Nose Correction), Liposuction, Laser Hair Removal and others. But the truth is that inspite of offering services in varied aspects of cosmetic surgery, Platic Surgery plays a pivotal role in curing burns and other related injuries. It is the social responsibility of Plastic Surgeons that they should make general public aware of various preventive measures which can be adopted to avoid burn injuries.
The day today was commemorated by informing the general public about the usage of various fire fighting equipments which are installed in public places including malls, hotels, restaurants and even in big residential premises .Persons from general public waiting in the hospital area were invited to display the usage of fire fighting equipments. Before the using of fire fighting equipments, they were demonstrated effectively to use such equipment
Principal Dr Sandeep Puri also presided over the function as the chief guest and lauded the efforts of Department Plastic Surgery in organizing such event to mark Plastic Surgery Day. Department also conducts interactive sessions in various schools of the city by making the children realize how to celebrate safe Diwali, which has received lot of appreciation from different schools
Last year, Department of Plastic Surgery introduced a 24 hours Burn Helpline No. 946469 1616 on the same day to make people get relevant medical services at the earliest.
