People should pronounce full name of University: Punjab Minister

LUDHIANA, MAY 4, 2018: Minister of Animal Husbandry, dairy development and labour department Balbir Singh Sidhu said that Guru Angad Dev Veterinary and Animal Sciences University's scientists and officials of Animal husbandry would work collectively in the state for the promotion of the livestock promotion so that the research being conducted at the university can be taken to the grassroots level which would not only enhance the farmers' income but would also decrease their dependence on other traditional crops.

During his maiden visit to Guru Angad Dev Veterinary and Animal Sciences University, the minister Balbir Singh Sidhu held an important meeting with the scientists and senior officials and asked them to chalk out strategy for holding training workshops in the each district of the state as livestock profession can play a vital role to improve the socio-economic status of the farming community.

Sidhu claimed that fisheries, dairy, piggery, poultry and other key farming areas which needed to be promoted widely and his government would leave no stone unturned for achieving the goals by implementing all the decisions taken into the meetings.

He also asked the officials to use social media by making small videos of the experts' views, recommendations, warnings and later sharing among the farmers for the betterment of livestock profession in the state. He also advised them to use innovative slogans in the videos.

The minister assured the University's Vice-Chancellor, Dr. Amarjit Singh Nanda to fill all vacant posts soon and there would be no shortage of funds for carrying out research in this sector.

In the meeting, Dr. Nanda apprised about the ongoing activities of the university in detail. Sidhu appreciated small milk chiller and milk adulteration kit developed by scientists here. He said that these types of technologies are very beneficial for farmers.

He emphasized that duckweed waste bioremediation by for treating polluted village ponds shall be replicated in the villages of the state that full fish producing a potential of these resources is achieved. There should be at least on the pond at district level which can be showcased to the farmers, he added.

After attending the meeting, the minister also visited various departments of College of Veterinary Science, Veterinary Clinics, Poultry Farm, Dairy Farm, College of Fisheries and College of Dairy Science and Technology and interacted with the faculty and students of the university.

Later, Sidhu also took a round of a pig farm in Kotli village and a dairy farm in Daheru village.

On the occasion, Dr. Amrjeet Singh, Director, Animal Husbandry, Inderjit Singh, Director, Dairy Development Board and Madan Mohan, Director and Warden of Fisheries of Punjab, Deputy Director Animal Husbandry Dr GS Toor Political Secretary to Minister, Harkesh Chand Sharma, Private Assistant Davinder Singh and others also were present.

Earlier, the district administration gave a guard of honour to the minister. Deputy Commissioner Pradeep Kumar Agrawal and Police Commissioner Sukhchain Singh Gill, District Congress Chief Gurpreet Singh Gogi and others welcomed the minister.

The Minister ordered categorically to all people of the state stating that they should pronounce full name of the University which is named after Guru Angad Dev Ji, second Sikh Guru.
