Pensioner's Day on December 17

Ludhiana, December 15, 2014: The Pensioners' Day will be celebrated at Punjab Agricultural University (PAU) in Pal Auditorium at 10.30 a.m on December 17. Dr Baldev Singh Dhillon, Vice-Chancellor, PAU, Ludhiana will preside over the function and Arun Yadav, Deputy General Manager, State Bank of India will be the Chief Guest.

Dr Sarjit Singh Gill, President of the Confederation of PAU Pensioners' Associations informed that this day is being celebrated throughout the country to mark the historic judgment of the Supreme Court of India on 17 December, 1982 regarding the rights of pensioners. The court had ruled that the pension is neither bounty nor charity given by the employer to the employees but it is a deferred salary. Therefore, the pensioners are entitled to receive pension as per their service conditions, said Dr Gill. Jaswant Singh, Sukhdev Singh and Jila Ram Bansal, Presidents of the member Associations of the Confederation appealed to their members to participate in this important event.
