Ludhiana, March 5, 2015: PCTE Institute of Hotel Management organised International Hospitality & Tourism Conclave and Conference on "Hospitality education: Bridging Gap between Hospitality Industry and Academics” at campus.
In the event, 25 research papers were presented from all over the region.
Chef Ajay Sood, Joint secretary Indian Culinary Forum, Amarjit Lidder, President, SKAL International India, D. Waag, Director Alliance Francaise Chandigarh, Dr Rajesh Choudhary, Associate General Manger HR, Devyani International(Pizza Hut & KFC), Prof. Manjula Chaudhary, Department of Tourism and Hotel Management, KUK, Navdeep Sharma, President- Indian Culinary Forum-Punjab & Chandigarh Chapter were among the panelists of the Conclave, which was a 360 degree moderated discussion on Hospitality education: Bridging Gap between Hospitality Industry and Academics.
Chef Sood on the occasion said that Joint sessions between the industry’s users HODs and the institute reps should be held in open forums to have discussions more often and freely in a candid manner. Dr Rajesh Choudhary explained that at times students are not clear about the expectations which prospective employers have from the prospective candidates. To bridge this gap, students should be made aware about the type of work; timings, working conditions, working hours etc. form the employer. Also they should be made aware of the industry reality before they enter in the same.
Amarjit Lidder during the conclave emphasized on the need of passion, attitude and openness to learn among the candidates willing to work in industry. Chef Navdeep gave many insightful inputs during the session, one of them being that the industry requires doing a little hand holding of the new comers for shaping them up as better professionals. Prof. Manjula Chaudhary summed up the discussion by stating that industry and academia have to work together as a facilitator for a better workforce in Hospitality sector.
Dr. K N S Kang, Director General, PCTE Group of Institutes congratulated the team of IHM on successfully organising the Conference & Conclave. He further said that it is the responsibility of educational institutes to prepare students as per the requirement of industry and this would help shorten the gap between the academics and industry. He also added that events like this will definitely help the students in understanding the world of Hospitality. Dr. Kang stressed that Hospitality is a growing sector and PCTE encourages such events to implement practical learning on campus.
