Chandigarh, September 7, 2012: The Punjab Government has reconstituted Punjab State Border Area Advisory Council for the overall development of the border areas.

Parkash Singh Badal, Chief Minister, Punjab would be chairman of this council, whereas Deputy Chief Minister, MPs, MLAs and Principal Secretaries of different departments have been inducted as members. It is pertinent to mention here that state government has also been reconstituted Kandi and Bet Areas Advisory Councils in the past.

Disclosing this here, an official spokesman said that this council would act to define the border areas of the state. It would also be the function of this council to aid and advice the government in drawing up schemes and programs for the development of these areas.

Elaborating the functioning of this council, the spokesman further said that this council would undertake the area planning of these border areas in order to ensure integrated and all round development of these areas, to fix priorities of various development works to be executed in these areas, to co-ordinate and review the activities of various departments with a view to remove the bottlenecks in the speedy implementation of programs, to take effective steps for spreading literacy in these areas and to devise measures to raise the standard of living of the backward section, landless labourers and agricultural works in these area.

The spokesman further said that apart from Deputy Chief Minister, the other official members of these council included Revenue Minister, Finance Minister, Chief Secretary, Financial Commissioner, Development, Financial Commissioner, Forest and Wild Life, Principal Secretary, Finance, Principal Secretary, Industries and Commerce, Principal Secretary, Irrigation, Principal Secretary, Planning, Principal Secretary, Home, Secretary, Power, Secretary, School Education, Secretary, PWD (B&R), Secretary, Water Supply and Sanitation, Chairman cum MD, Punjab State Transmission Corporation Limited, Chairman cum MD, Punjab State Power Corporation Limited, Inspector General BSF Jalandhar and Deputy Commissioners of Amritsar, Gurdaspur, Pathankot, Ferozpur, Fazilka and Tarn Taran.

He further said that non-official members from Amritsar are MP Amritsar, MLAs of Raja Sansi, Attari and Ajnala, from district Pathankot; MP Gurdaspur and MLA Bhoa from district Ferozpur; MP Ferozpur and MLAs of Ferozpur City, Guru Harsahai, Zira and Ferozpur Rural, from district Fazilka; MLAs of Jalalbad, Abohar, Balluana and Fazilka, from district Gurdaspur; MP Gurdaspur and MLAs of Dera Baba Nanak, Gurdaspur, Dinanagar and Fatehgarh Churian and from District Tarn Taran; MP Khadoor Sahib and MLAs of Patti, Tarn Taran and Khemkaran have been inducted in this council.
