PAU's KVK Imparts Knowledge On Seed Production

Ludhiana, October 15, 2015: A training camp was jointly organised by the Punjab Agricultural University’s Krishi Vigyan Kendra (Samrala) and Cooperative Bank in the village Pandher Kheri. As many as 40 farmers and farm women participated in the camp. Meanwhile, KVK Samrala also organized a five-day training course on “Seed Production” in which 20 farmers participated.

Dr S.C. Sharma, Associate Director (Training), Samrala, exhorted the farmers to participate actively in the training programmes and other activities of the KVK.

Dr Devinder Tiwari, an expert from KVK Samrala, apprised the farmers of the recommended varieties of various rabi crops and advised them to go for the seed production. He told the farmers to purchase the improved varieties of different rabi crops, water testing kits, vegetable kits, etc. from the Seed Shop at KVK Samrala.

Dr B.S. Kang, former Associate Director (Training), KVK Samrala gave detailed information about the seed production of vegetables.

Dr Ritu Mahal, Assistant Professor (Home Science), called upon the farm women to receive trainings from KVK Samrala, form self-help groups (SHGs) and start their own ventures for economic sustainability.

Dr Avneet Kaur, Assistant Professor (Horticulture), provided useful tips for the successful cultivation of vegetables and proper maintenance of orchards.

Dr R. Ghuman, Assistant Professor (Agro), KVK Ropar imparted practical knowledge on the seed production of wheat and berseem crops.

Mr Harjinder Singh from Cooperative Bank informed about various agricultural schemes, being offered by the bank.

Gurmeet Singh, Chairman, Cooperative Society, proposed the vote of thanks.

During the camp, Kanwaljit Kaur highlighted the importance of Swachh Bharat Abhiyaan and asked the participants to keep their surroundings neat and clean. She urged them to make use of jute bags instead of plastic bags, use kitchen wastes for fertilizer making and keep separate bins for dumping the garbage.

During the course, successful farmers shared their experiences regarding the seed production.
