Ludhiana, November 7, 2014: A week-long “Inter-College Youth Festival” on Thursday concluded at the Punjab Agricultural University (PAU) amidst vibrant cultural performances and unbridled enthusiasm. The entire atmosphere at the Open Air Theatre of PAU was electrifying with the bhangra dhol beats and giddha boliyan. Besides, the mono-acting and skit events swept the show completely on the last day. The College of Agriculture, PAU clinched the overall trophy.

Speaking on the occasion, the Chief Guest Tejinder Kaur Dhaliwal, Chairperson, Punjab School Education Board, Chandigarh said that effervescent performances of the students during the youth fest deserve all round applause. She urged the PAU students to follow in the footsteps of the intelligentsia, produced by the University. She congratulated PAU VC, Dr Baldev Singh Dhillon for bagging “Dr B.P. Pal Memorial Award” for his outstanding contributions to farm research and development. Later, she congratulated the winners and gave away the prizes.

Presiding over the fest, Dr Baldev Singh Dhillon, Vice-Chancellor, said that “PAU has been the bedrock of innumerable stalwarts in varied fields be it agricultural sciences, civil services, sports or cultural artists.” He advised the students to inculcate competitive spirit, excel in academics and participate enthusiastically in extra-curricular activities as this is a way to success. The youth community of PAU and the organizers of the fest have left no stone unturned in enthralling the audience and making the fest a grand event, he added.

Earlier, Dr Ravinder Kaur Dhaliwal, Director Students’ Welfare welcomed the dignitaries and the gathering. She highlighted that the students from four constituent colleges of PAU are full of caliber, talent and creativity. They have won many accolades at the national level and brought good name to their alma-mater, she added.

The Vice-Chancellor of Guru Angad Dev Veterinary and Animal Sciences University (GADVASU), Dr V.K. Taneja was also present on the occasion.

During the prize-distribution ceremony, Sumita Bhalla (College of Home Science) was adjudged as Best Singer. Anmol Grewal, Silika Gupta and Sarabjit Singh (College of Basic Sciences) were adjudged as Best Speaker, Best Actress and Best Poet, respectively. Manjeet Singh (College of Agricultural Engineering) and Chetan Kaur (College of Agriculture) were adjudged as Best Actor and Best Artist, respectively. Mehakpreet Singh (College of Agricultural Engineering) and Navjeet Kaur (College of Basic Sciences) were adjudged as Best Dancer (male and female).

Besides, the running trophy for cultural procession, literary, fine arts, and dance events was bagged by College of Agriculture; theatre events by College of Agricultural Engineering; and music events by College Home Science. In addition, Dr Dalip Singh Deep Award for session 2013-14 was bestowed on Alamdeep S. Brar. Lt.Triveni Singh Thakur Cash Award was awarded to Manjinder Singh (Best Athlete-male) and Pratishtha Verma (Best Athlete-female).
