PAU Students Participate In International Conference In Germany

Ludhiana, September 2, 2015: Two students of the Punjab Agricultural University (PAU) have made their alma-mater proud by participating in an International Conference (on international travel grants) at Berlin, Germany. Ms Shikha Sharma, a Ph. D scholar in the Department of Plant Pathology, PAU presented a research paper entitled “First Report of Mixed Infection of Zucchini Yellow Mosaic Virus (ZYMV) and Tomato Leaf Curl New Delhi Virus (ToLCNDV) Infecting Bittergourd in Punjab, India” during the XVIII International Plant Protection Congress (IPCC), held at Berlin, Germany from August 24-27, 2015. She was awarded International Travel Grant by the Department of Science and Technology, Government of India. She is working on plant viruses under the guidance of Dr S. S. Kang, Professor of Plant Pathology.

Another student of Plant Pathology, Mr Ifran Khan also participated in IPCC and presented the paper entitled “Virus Complex Causing Degeneration of Cultivated Allium Species in North-Western India”. He was awarded International Travel Grant by the Department of Biotechnology, Government of India. He is pursuing his Master’s degree under the guidance of Dr Abhishek Sharma, Assistant Virologist, Department of Vegetable Science.

Dr B. S. Dhillon, Vice Chancellor, PAU and Dr (Mrs) Neelam Grewal, Dean, Postgraduate Studies congratulated the students for their praiseworthy performance.

The Dean, College of Agriculture Dr H. S. Dhaliwal appreciated the research work and efforts made by the students. The officials highly acknowledged the facilities provided by Dr P.S Sekhon, Professor and Head, Department of Plant Pathology and Dr M. S. Dhaliwal, Professor and Head, Department of Vegetable Science to the students for undertaking research.
