PAU Student Ravneet Kaur Gets Research Grant

Ludhiana, July 13, 2016: Ms Ravneet Kaur, a Ph.D.student (Biochemistry), Punjab Agricultural University (PAU) has been awarded research grant by the Department of Science and Technology under Women Scientist Scheme A (WOS-A) for pursuing doctoral research on “Biochemical basis of micronutrient deficiency tolerance in triticale X wheat derivative lines.” The fellowship amount is Rs 30,000 month with the project grant for three years amounting to Rs 17, 50,000.

Giving details of the proposed research, the Major Advisor, Dr (Mrs) Surekha Bhatia, Assistant Biochemist, said the study will help in identification of biochemical basis of micronutrient deficiency tolerance in triticale X wheat derivatives lines.

According to Dr (Mrs) Bavita Asthir, Head, Department of Biochemistry, the project will generate knowledge, which can prove to be critical for development of micronutrient deficiency tolerant wheat lines, particularly in the context of intensive agriculture practiced in the state. Likewise, micronutrient-efficient genotypes raised on soils of low nutrient availability will represent an eco-friendly approach.
