PAU Student Mitaly Bansal Gets An International Award

Ludhiana, March 30, 2016: Ms Mitaly Bansal, a Ph.D student of School of Agricultural Biotechnology (SAB), Punjab Agricultural University (PAU) has been awarded a prestigious “Jeanie Borlaug Laube Women in Triticum (WIT) Early Career Award” for her excellent research achievements. The award provides professional development opportunities for women working in wheat during the early stages of their career. Recipients of the Jeanie Borlaug Laube WIT award are invited to the Annual Borlaug Global Rust Initiative Technical Workshop and a training programme at CIMMYT in Obregon, Mexico.

Ms Bansal is carrying out her Ph.D. with Dr (Ms) Parveen Chhuneja as her Major Advisor. She is carrying out her doctoral research on “Rust Disease in Wheat” at John Innes Centre, U.K. under an International Fellowship in the supervision of Dr Cristobal Uauy, who congratulated her for this achievement.

Dr B.S. Dhillon, Vice Chancellor, PAU lauded Ms Bansal for the international recognition and wished her a bright career ahead.

The Dean Postgraduate Studies, Dr Neelam Grewal and Director of SAB, Dr R. K. Gumber congratulated Ms Bansal for winning this prestigious award.

Dr Parveen Chhuneja, her PAU guide, said “Passion for the subject, originality, and conscientiousness make her standout.”

Ms Bansal says, “The award recognizes women’s efforts and is a reminder for me to pay back to the society for this recognition in future.”
