PAU Scientist Dr Manmohanjit Singh receives national recognition for transfer of technology.

Ludhiana, February 18, 2015: A Senior Extension Specialist (Soil Science) of the Punjab Agricultural University (PAU), Dr Manmohanjit Singh has been conferred with the “Sumer Memorial Award” for the best extension scientist and for making outstanding efforts in transferring the technology in soil and water conservation. Dr Singh is presently working at Farm Advisory Service Scheme, Mohali of PAU. The Soil Conservation Society of India, New Delhi has selected him for this prestigious award, carrying a citation and a cash prize of Rs 25000/-.  Dr J. S Samra, Chief Executive Officer, National Rainfed Area Authority and Dr A. K .Sikka, Deputy Director General (Natural Resource Management), ICAR, New Delhi presented the award to Dr Singh during the inaugural function of International Conference on “Natural Resource Management for Food Security and Rural Livelihood” on February 10, 2015 at New Delhi.

The PAU Vice-Chancellor, Dr Baldev Singh Dhillon congratulated Dr Singh for this achievement and exhorted him to continue serving the farming community with much more enthusiasm  in future.

Dr R. S. Sidhu, Director of Extension Education, PAU and Dr H. S. Thind, Head, Department of Soil Science, also lauded the efforts, made by Dr Singh for the benefit of small and marginal farmers.

Giving details, Dr Suraj Bhan, President of Soil Conservation Society of India, said that Dr Singh was selected on the basis of his contributions that have helped to extend the research outcomes on soil and water conservation to the farming community, thus, resulting in better natural resource management and enhancement of living standards of farmers.

Dr Manmohanjit Singh thanked his alma-mater (PAU) and has decided to donate the prize money to the PAU Endowment Fund. He has successfully executed the competitive-grant on-farm research project as Principal Investigator. It was funded by NRTT, Mumbai. He has developed a model runoff farming system in the Shiwalik region of Punjab on micro-watershed basis, which has resulted in improving the crop productivity along with increase in area under cropping.
