Ludhiana, February 12, 2015: A one-day energy conservation camp was organised by the College of Home Science of the Punjab Agricultural University (PAU) in the village Sidhwan Kalan. The programme was hosted in association with Punjab Energy Development Agency (PEDA) under Rural Agricultural Work Experience (RAWE). Around 200 farmers and farm women participated in the camp wherein experts from PEDA and PAU were invited.

On the occasion, Dr Varinder Randhawa said that energy conversation is the need of hour and rural areas have the needed resources for propagating the energy conservation technologies.

Dr Anupam Nanda, District Manager PEDA, emphasised that biogas plant costs around Rs 30, 000-40,000 depending upon size and capacity, which is sufficient to meet the demands of family of 6-8 members. A subsidy of Rs 9000 is given by PEDA for installation of biogas plant. Further, he informed that PEDA has also introduced Solar Power Net Metering which is installed on roof top and thus, power generated from sun can be exploited for domestic and commercial purposes. Once it is connected with one’s electric meter, the surplus power generated by net metering is deducted from the electricity bill. He further enlightened that it costs around Rs 1 lakh for which a subsidy of Rs 24,000 is provided by PEDA. He told that people can also use other sources of renewable energy like solar energy, biomass, bio refineries CNG power energy etc.

Dr Ritu Mittal said that programme was a huge success and many of the participants were interested in getting biogas plant installed.
