PAU MAKES SEED OF MAIZE HYBRID AVAILABLE FOR PURCHASE

Ludhiana, June 20, 2017: Maize crop can play a vital role in crop diversification, said Dr T.S.Dhillon, Director (Seeds), Punjab Agricultural University (PAU). The seed of maize hybrid, PMH 1, developed by PAU for kharif season, is available for purchase at PAU, Ludhiana; and Krishi Vigyan Kendras at Samrala, Fatehgarh Sahib, Ropar, Bahowal, Hoshiarpur, Noormahal, Kapurthala, Gurdaspur, Pathankot and Amritsar, he informed. Besides, the seed is available at Farm Advisory Service Centres, Tarantarn and Fazilka, he told. The corn of this hybrid is medium sized and grains are yellow-orange in colour. It matures in 95 days and its average yield is 21q/acre, he said. Fifty per cent subsidy is being given on the seed at Amritsar, Gurdaspur, Hoshiarpur, Jalandhar, Nawanshehar, Ropar, Fatehgarh Sahib, Fazilka, Patiala, Sangrur, Ludhiana, Kapurthala and Taran Tarn districts, he told. The price of 4kg seed will be Rs 400, he said. The farmers interested in availing subsidy should contact Chief Agriculture Officer of their respective district.
