Ludhiana, August 10, 2015: The office of Dean, Postgraduate Studies at Punjab Agricultural University (PAU) has invited essays from the students, pursuing their Master’s programme in any discipline at PAU, for “Dr Sukhdev Singh Prize for Essay and Oration 2015-16.” The topics for the essay competition are “Conservation Agriculture: Need of the Hour” and “Building Knowledge Society: Minimizing Rural and Urban Divide.”
Giving details, Dr Neelam Grewal, Dean, Postgraduate Studies (PGS), said the essay should be of about 5000 to 7000 words, typed/written in double space, in full scale papers, excluding tables and references. The journals, books etc. from which the subject matter is taken should be cited as reference at the end of the essay. The essay should bear the name of the student, admission number, and the department on the upper right hand corner of the cover page of essay, she added. Besides, the essay should bear a certificate from the Major Advisor and be countersigned by the Head of the Department to the effect that “It is students’ own attempt,” she said. The minimum contestants should not be less than three, she told, while adding that seven copies of the essay in bound form should reach the office of the Dean PGS on or before February 11, 2016.
Elaborating, Dr Grewal said the preliminary selection of the students shall be made on the basis of the quality of write-up. The students who qualify in the preliminary evaluation shall be required to make an oral presentation of the essay before the students, faculty and evaluation committee. The decision of the evaluation committee will be final, she added. A total of Rs 9000/- will be awarded to the contestant who stands first in the competition. Any other clarification can be sought from the office of dean PGS.
