Ludhiana, March 13, 2015: The Punjab Agricultural University (PAU), Ludhiana has inked a Memorandum of Agreement (MoA) with Schiron Crop Sciences Incorporation, Abohar. Under this agreement the firm has been licensed to produce Plant Growth Promoting Rhizobacteria (PGPR) Culture which is utilized for the production of bio-fertilizer. Dr Balwinder Singh, Director of Research, PAU and Jiten Kinra, Business Manager Schiron Crop Sciences Incorporation, Abohar, signed the MoA, today. Two microbiologists of PAU, Dr Param Pal Sahota and Dr. Madhurama Gangwar, are the inventors of the Plant Growth Promoting Rhizobacteria (PGPR) Culture.
Dr Balwinder Singh informed that the bio-fertilizer will help to improve the soil health and dependence on inorganic fertilizers will be reduced. He said that the biofertilizer have provide nutrients to plant at very low cost, promote growth, fixes atmospheric nitrogen, helps in mineralization of plant nutrients, converts non-available form of phosphate into available form, improve crop yield, cost-effective to use as it is required in small quantities which ultimately curtail the cost of cultivation along with the improvement in soil health. He further added that the consortium bio-fertilizer is useful for sugarcane, wheat, maize, onion, potato and turmeric crop.
Jiten Kinra said that the use of bio-fertilizer will be environment friendly, improve the soil fertility and non-toxic for human health. He further added that the company will cover the small and marginal farmers with door to door supply of Bio-fertilizer. Dr S.S. Chahal, Adjunct Professor, PAU said that the signing of agreements will strengthen the collaboration with the industries, and their benefits will percolate the farmers at affordable prices.
