Ludhiana, February 9, 2018: A two-day training programme on “Seed Production Technology for Field and Vegetable Crops” was organized by the office of Director (Seeds), PAU, in which 25 participants comprising farm managers, agricultural sub-inspectors, field coordinators and beldars from different University Seed Farms (USF), Regional Research Stations and Krishi Vigyan Kendras participated. The purpose of training was to acquaint the participants with latest seed production technologies and farm operations required for quality seed production.
In his address, the chief guest, Dr K.S. Thind, Additional Director of Research (Crop Improvement), PAU, stressed upon quality seed production.
Dr T.S. Dhillon, Associate Director (Seeds), PAU, emphasized on updating the knowledge of field staff for quality seed production of field and vegetable crops including hybrids.
Quality seed production of maize, oilseeds and fodder crops was discussed by Dr J.S. Chawla, Dr K.S. Brar and Dr U.S. Tiwana, respectively. Useful types on vegetable seed productions were given by Dr Rajinder Singh.
Similarly, detailed seed production technology of wheat and paddy was discussed by Dr T.P. Singh. Apart from this, field visit to USF Ladhowal was conducted by Dr K.B. Singh and Dr Deepak Arora. Participants were imparted practical knowledge on seed production of field and vegetables and their grading, packing and storage aspects.
