PAU to impart training to farmers, farm women and rural youth

Ludhiana, October 31, 2014: The Directorate of Extension Education of the Punjab Agricultural University (PAU) will organize two training courses entitled “Preparation of Natural Vinegar and Non-Alcoholic Carbonated Beverages” and “Garment Grooming Techniques for Market Profitability” in November 2014.

Giving details, Dr R.S. Sidhu, Director of Extension Education, said that the course on “Preparation of Natural Vinegar and Non-Alcoholic Carbonated Beverages” will be held in collaboration with the Department of Microbiology on October 4 and 5. The course has been designed, especially, for farmers and farm women, he said. The PAU experts will impart training in the preparation of natural vinegar from sugarcane juice with focus on its scope, significance, futuristic aspects, expenses and profits, he added. Besides, the experts will educate the trainees about the preparation of non-alcoholic carbonated beverages from pineapple and other fruit juices with thrust on its importance and economics, he said.

Dr Sidhu further said that the course on “Garment Grooming Techniques for Market Profitability” will be conducted for farm women and rural youth from October 10-14. He told that the subject-matter specialists will lay emphasis on the process of batik art, free hand printing, screen and stencil printing on garments, decorating garments with block printing, surface embellishments of clothing articles of teenagers, ways to increase market profitability of textile items, and selection of suitable colour scheme for garments. In addition, textile embellishments through gold, silver work and mirror work; and various embroidery stitches, thread work, patch work and laces for garment embellishment will be other highlights, he said.
