Ludhiana, March 18, 2016: The Regional Research Station of Punjab Agricultural University (PAU) at Ballowal Saunkhri organized a Farmers’ Awareness Camp at village Achalpur. The camp was held in collaboration with India Meteorological Department. The station Director, Dr. Manmohanjit Singh informed that the effect of climate change on crops shall be worst in rainfed and under limited available water condition. He said that during the last 30 years there is rise of maximum temperature and decline of rainfall in Kandi region of Punjab. PAU is developing crop varieties to tackle this climate change situation, he told.
During the technical session, Dr. Anil Khokhar gave information on rainfed crop production, and Dr. Vivek Sharma spoke on judicious use of fertilizers and irrigation water, Dr. Yogesh Khokhar dwelt on horticulture crops and Smt. Veerpal Kaur talked about income generation activities of Self Help Groups. Trainees from Afghanistan also took part in the camp. Fruit plant saplings and literature were distributed on this occasion.
