PAU To Hold All India Conference On Linguistics And Folklore

Ludhiana, May 11, 2015: The Department of Agricultural Journalism, Languages and Culture (DAJLC) of Punjab Agricultural University (PAU) will be holding the “3rd All-India Conference on Linguistics and Folklore” on May 28 and 29. The conference will be organized in association with Punjabi Linguistics Association under the theme “Emerging Trends in Literature, Language and Folklore.” Delegates from Punjab and adjoining states will be participating in the conference.

Giving details, Dr Gurinder Kaur Sangha, Dean, College of Basic Sciences and Humanities, PAU and Convener of the Conference, said the confluence of learned delegates will focus on changing paradigms in language and literary studies. She further informed about specialized tracks which would range from topics as diverse as theoretical perspectives on folklore, style and poetic language, emerging trends in literary studies to subjects like representation of folklore in media and effects of new modes of communication on language.

Dr Jagdish Kaur, Head, DAJLC opined, “The conference will provide an opportunity to budding scholars and research enthusiasts to share their inputs on contemporary literary and language scenario in India and abroad.” Giving outlines of the conference, she said the last date for submission of abstracts is May 15 while full papers will be accepted till May 21. The language for the research papers can be English, Hindi or Punjabi, she added. Besides, a special session for postgraduate students and research scholars will be conducted and the best paper in each category will be awarded, she informed. The keynote speakers will be Dr Harjit Singh Gill, Professor Emeritus, Jawaharlal Nehru University, New Delhi; and Dr Joginder Puar, Former Vice Chancellor, Punjabi University, Patiala.
