PAU To Hold 3rd All India Conference On Linguistics And Folklore

Ludhiana, May 21, 2015: The “3rd All-India Conference on Linguistics and Folklore” will be organized at the Punjab Agricultural University (PAU) on May 28 and 29 under the theme “Emerging Trends in Literature, Language and Folklore.” The conference will be jointly coordinated by the Department of Agricultural Journalism, Languages and Culture (DAJLC), PAU and Punjabi Linguistics Association. Dr Surjit Patar, a renowned Punjabi poet will be the chief guest while Dr Baldev Singh Dhillon, Vice-Chancellor, PAU will preside over the inaugural session of the conference on May 28 at Jacob Hall at 10.00 a.m. S. Harcharan Bains and S. G.S. Sandhu, who have long association with PAU and contributed immensely to the field of language and literature, will be special guests on the occasion. The keynote speakers will be Dr Harjit Singh Gill, Professor Emeritus, Jawaharlal Nehru University, New Delhi; and Dr Nahar, an eminent Punjabi writer.

Divulging details, Dr (Mrs.) G.K. Sangha, Dean, College of Basic Sciences and Humanities and Convener of the Conference, said, “For the first time, PAU has taken an initiative of organizing such conference. The faculty and students of DAJLC have been assigned the duties for the success of the conference.” Delegates from Punjab and adjoining states will participate in the conference, she informed, saying that a total of 60 research papers have been received so far.

Dr Jagdish Kaur, Head, DAJLC said a special session for postgraduate students and research scholars will be conducted and the best paper in each category will be awarded. “In this conference, teachers, researchers and aspirants of English, Hindi or Punjabi languages can participate,” she added.
