PAU Gives Warm Send Off To Dr M.S.Sidhu, Technical Advisor To VC

Ludhiana, July 31, 2015: Dr M.S.Sidhu, Technical Advisor to Vice-Chancellor, Punjab Agricultural University (PAU) and former Head, Department of Economics and Sociology was given a warm send off on his superannuation today. All the senior officials of the University and faculty members of the department wished Dr Sidhu a healthy and wealthy post-retirement life.

Speaking at the farewell function, Dr Baldev Singh Dhillon, Vice-Chancellor, PAU praised Dr Sidhu for his 37 years of dedicated services at PAU. He said, “Dr Sidhu is a well-informed economist, and has been very cooperative and supportive throughout his career. His contributions to agricultural economics and sociology will always be recognized in the years to come.” Dr Dhillon also acknowledged Dr Sidhu for his optimism and cheerfulness.

Dr Balwinder Singh, Director of Research and Dr R.S. Sidhu, officiating Registrar and Director of Extension Education, appreciated Dr M.S. Sidhu for his light-hearted, gentle and kind nature. They called him as a ‘man of understating.’

Dr Sidhu thanked all the senior officials and faculty members of his department for recognizing his services and contributions to the field of economics and sociology.

Dr Sidhu did his B.A. (Hons.) in 1975, M.A. Economics in 1977 and Ph.D in 1996 from Punjabi University, Patiala. He joined PAU as a Research Fellow in the Department of Economics and Sociology in 1978 and was appointed as Assistant Economist (Marketing) in 1983. He was promoted as Economist (Marketing) in 1996 and Senior Economist (Marketing) in 2004. He served as Head, Department of Economics and Sociology for four years (2010 to 2014). His publications include 145 research papers, 35 research reports, 29 book chapters, 4 book reviews and 21 popular articles. He has also taught 59 PG/UG courses, guided eight M.Sc. and two Ph.D students as Major Advisor. Besides, he has delivered about 210 extension lectures, TV/Radio talks. He is a life member of eight professional societies/associations and has served as their President, Vice-President, General Secretary, Treasurer, Member, Editorial Board, etc. In addition, Dr Sidhu has served as member of 20 Expert committees/groups constituted by PAU and state government from time to time.
