Ludhiana/Mansa, October 25, 2016: The Department of Soil and Water Engineering, Punjab Agricultural University (PAU) organized a one-day awareness camp on “Micro irrigation”in the village Burj Dhilwan, district Mansa today. The Krishi Vigyan Kendra,Mansaalso participated in the programme.Sh. S.K. Goyal, Executive Engineer,Punjab Water Resources Management and Development Corporation, Mansa participated along with his team.The programme was attended by more than 200 farmers fromMansa district.
Dr Rajan Aggarwal, Head, Department of Soil and Water Engineering, PAU, welcomed the guests and the farmers. He explained the farmers about conservation of water resources for sustainable agriculture. He also exhorted them to adopt micro irrigation technologies for improving water use efficiency.
Dr Rakesh Sharda, Principal Investigator of the scheme titled, “Promotion of micro irrigation for canal command area and water management for Kotla branch-Part II,” dwelt on the use drip irrigation and fertigation for raising different crops. He apprised the farmers of various components of drip irrigation and fertigation, and also told them about different subsidies available on the system.
The experts included Dr O.P. Chaudhary,Dr Mandeep Singh Gill, Dr Bharat Singh and Dr GPS Sodhi.They threw light on different aspects of horticultural crops using micro irrigation system. They informed the farmers about micro irrigation, use of saline water for cultivation of fruits and vegetables, drip irrigation maintenance andimproving water use efficiency.
