Ludhiana: As many as 4668 students appeared for Common Entrance Test (CET)-2016, conducted by the Punjab Agricultural University (PAU) on June 18. The test received an unprecedented response from the student fraternity from across the Punjab state as well as adjoining states.
Divulging details, Dr P.K. Khanna, Registrar, PAU said a total of 5167 students applied for seeking admission to four-year undergraduate programmmes including B.Sc Agriculture (Hons.), B.Sc Biotech (Hons.), B.Tech Food Technology, B.Sc (Hons.) Home Science, B.Sc (Hons.) Nutrition and Dietetics, and five-year Integrated M.Sc (Hons.) programme in Biochemistry, Botany, Chemistry, Microbiology and Zoology. He further said that 374 seats in these programmes would be filled on the basis of merit of students in this test and the result of CET would be uploaded on the university website i.e. www.pau.edu.
Dr N.K. Khullar, Controller of Examinations, PAU, said, “A total of 4668 candidates appeared in CET-2016, out of which 2450 were girls and 2218 were boys.” He stated, “Despite opening of several deemed universities and colleges in the region, PAU is highly sought after institution and first preference of the students for receiving education in agriculture and allied fields.” A total of 19 centres were created on the PAU campus and in three schools of the city for the smooth conduct of the examination, he added. Students were accompanied by their parents and elaborate arrangements were made, he told.
