Ludhiana, October 30, 2019 The Punjab Agricultural University is all set organize a series of events for commemorating the 550th birth anniversary of Sri Guru Nanak Dev Ji from 1- 4 November, 2019.
Divulging details, Dr Jaskarn Singh Mahal, Director Extension, PAU, said the mega event is being organized to sensitize the communities about the Guru’s teachings.
“The four day celebrations will be inaugurated by the PAU Vice Chancellor, Dr B.S. Dhillon, Padam Shri awardee on November 1, 2019,” said Dr Mahal, and will include competitions, exhibitions and discussions from Gurbani. Artist Swaranjit Singh Savi will showcase his paintings based on life and times of the Guru on the first day, while there will essay writing, poster making and photography competitions for students on days 2 and 3. The theme for essay writing competition is, ‘Pawan Guru Paani Pita, Mata Dharat Mahatt’ and for photography it is, ‘Balihaari Kudrat Vaseya’. Discussions from Gurbani will be held on November 4 at Pal Auditorium and will feature Dr Brij Pal Singh from Patiala and Dr Balwinder Singh from Ludhiana. Apart from Shabad Gaayan, there will feature presentation based on ‘Gagan Mein Thaal and Mool Mantar’.
Dr Mahal revealed that the day will also give a clarion call to save environment and in this regard 550 saplings will be planted at various places in the university campus along with jingles and videos to drive home the message of conservation. The university will also release special issues of the monthly farm magazines, ‘Changi Kheti and Progressive Farming’. The event will lay special emphasis on the guru’s teachings emphasizing on ‘Vand Chhako’; contributions in the form of clothes, toiletries, groceries etc will be collected and kept in the Examination Hall of the College of Agriculture for use by the needy. An exhibition on historic books related to Guru Nanak Dev Ji’s teachings shall also be put up during the occasion.

The Directorate of Extension Education of Punjab Agricultural University (PAU) Ludhiana organized a five-day training course on the “Preparation of Cake, Biscuits and Other Bakery Products” in which 36 rural women participated.
Dr TS Riar, Associate Director (Skill Development), said the PAU experts demonstrated the making of different bakery products.
Experts Dr Sonika Sharma, Dr Harpreet Kaur, Dr Navjot Kaur Gill and Dr Poonam Bakhetia imparted practical training in the preparation of muffins, coconut cake, breads, caramel cake, eggless cake, sponge cake and cookies, respectively.
Dr Rupinder Kaur, Professor of Extension Education, motivated the trainees to venture into their own business of bakery products. Ms Bhupinder Kaur later proposed the vote of thanks.
