Patient from California gets treated at Ludhiana hospital

Ludhiana, August 10, 2013: Medical tourism in India is growing fast whereby patients from West are coming here for cheaper treatment options.

Likewise, Sukhwinder Kaur, 43, from Server oak drive, California, USA, approached Dr. Rama Sofat  Hospital and Dr. Ruchika  Test Tube Baby Centre Ludhiana  on August 3 with complaints   of  excessive and painful periods   for  the  last  2 years. On examination   She  was  found to be Anaemic and she had an enlarged uterus(16-18wks size ) secondary to multiple fibroids. She was advised removal of uterus in the USA with a waiting period of one year. She finally decided to come to India and get this surgery performed.

At Dr Rama Sofat Hospital and Dr Ruchika Sofat Test Tube Baby Centre she was  advised removal of uterus by Key hole Surgery, (Total Laproscopic Hysterectomy).

The patient got admitted to the hospital and got operated on August the 7. In this procedure  the uterus is first separated from  the abdomen using high end vessel sealing machines and removed from the abdomen  through  the birth canal .The  patient has only 3 -4 cuts on the abdomen measuring 5-10mm only, said the hospital release here today. The main advantages of this surgery include less pain, less bleeding and early recovery.

This surgery was performed by Dr Rama Sofat (ex-Head Department of Obst/Gynae , DMCH, Ludhiana ) and Dr Amit Sofat. The general Anaesthesia was given by Dr T.K. Kaul (ex-Prof & Head Anaesthesia Dept, DMCH,   Ludhiana). The patient has recovered well and being discharged today. This kind of surgery is being done in a very few centres in India and abroad, the doctors claimed.
