Patiala Heart Institute unveils ‘heart team approach’
Patiala, September 28, 2019: To facilitate process of patient centric evidence based care, Patiala Heart Institute here on Saturday unveiled multidisciplinary ‘Heart Team Approach’’ concept. Dr.Gurpreet Singh Sidhu, Senior Consultant Cardiologist and Managing Director of Patiala Heart Institute while talking to media during a press conference on World Heart Day today said that American College of Cardiology Foundation identifies ‘heart team’ as cornerstones for modern cardiovascular care. While strategies for implementation of these teams vary from one hospital to other, this broad approach has become a standard of cardiovascular care at Patiala Heart Institute, asserted Dr Sidhu. Dilshad Singh Sidhu, COO of Patiala Heart Institute informed that treatment of heart disease is a team effort. Our Department of Cardiac Sciences at Patiala Heart Institute has a team of Clinical Cardiologists, Interventional Cardiologists and Cardiac Surgeons thus offering a complete cardiac care under one roof. Talking about on how ‘heart team’ will work, Dr.SPS Bagga, Sr. Cardiac Surgeon said that in case of a complex situation, ‘HEART TEAM’ would come into action. They would come together and discuss appropriate line of treatment involving patient’s family also, maintained Dr Bagga. Dr.Simarjot Singh Sarin, Sr. Interventional Cardiologist informed that the team’s targets include; better interpretation of the available diagnostics , implement guidelines directed treatment , consider best expertise through a more objective and uniform decision-making process. Talking about how ‘heart team’ would help patients, Dr.Birdevinder Singh, Sr.Interventional Cardiologist explained that ‘HEART TEAM’ consisting of all the experts would decide about the best line of treatment. He said further that team would apply scientific criteria to decide on the line of treatment. Meanwhile, talking about the theme of this year World Heart Day , Dr.Gurpreet Singh Sidhu said that on this World Heart Day, we want everyone to be ‘Heart Heroes’ by making a promise to eat healthily, exercise more, stop using tobacco, asking children to be more active.” He said, “There is a need for awareness among community about prevention of heart diseases, knowing its symptoms and actions required to tackle the emergency. Not only one should take care of himself or herself but equally important is to lend help to those who suffer heart attack and any other emergency related to the heart.” The theme focuses on this aspect where everyone in community should be aware of prevention of heart disease and its treatment. By this we can not only help ourselves, our family and relatives but can also prove useful for the community, said Dr Sidhu.
