Panjab University VC expresses deep sorrow and grief over sad demise of former ISRO chairman and PU alumnus Prof MGK Menon

Chandigarh, November 22, 2016: Panjab University (PU) Vice-Chancellor Prof Arun Kumar Grover has expressed deep sorrow and grief over the sad demise of former Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) chairman and PU alumnus Prof MGK Menon.
Prof MGK Menon was 88 years and ill for some time. He is survived by his wife, a son and a daughter.
In his condolence message, Prof Grover recalled the contribution of Prof Menon to the Indian Sciences over last five decades. Besides being a Union Minister and Secretary in the Department of Science and Technology and Environment in the Union
Government, Prof Menon succeeded Homi J. Bhabha at the Tata Institute of Fundamental Research (TIFR), Mumbai as Director TIFR and Vikram Sarabhai at ISRO as the Chairman ISRO, Prof Grover added.
Recalling his past association with Prof Menon, PU VC Prof Grover said, “I joined TIFR when he was Director, TIFR. He also presided over my lecture at India International Centre, New Delhi on completion of 150 Years of Higher Education in
Punjab”.
Prof Menon was an alumnus of PU. He passed his Matriculation from PU at Lahore as he enrolled for it from the princely state in Rajasthan where his father was a Minister. Prof Menon was proud of his connection with PU as he had told the audience
in IIC while introducing PU, recalled Prof Grover.
Prof Grover has prayed to the Almighty to give strength to the bereaved family for bearing the huge loss.
