Panjab University Professor honored with Award of Eminent Personality in Sikh Scholarship
Chandigarh, November 13, 2019: Dr.Jaspal Kaur Kaang, Professor & Academic Incharge of Guru Nanak Sikh Studies and Co-ordinator, Department of Punjabi, University School of Open learning of Panjab University Chandigarh has been honored with the Award of ‘Eminent Personality in Sikh Scholarship’. The prestigious award has been conferred upon her at the celebration of National Education conclave and SOE Global Education Awards 2019. The award is presented to her by the School of Educators on 9th November 2019 at Constitutional Club of Delhi India. The award is presented to her for her outstanding contribution as an eminent scholar in the field of Sikh Studies. The honorable guests present there were Mr. Rajesh Tandon Retd. Honorable Judge of High Court Uttrakhand India and Dr. Deepak Vohra, Special Advisor to Prime Minister of India and also former Ambassador, Mr. Anil Aggarwal Honorable Member of Rajya sabha, Mr. O.P. Sharma President Intellectual Cell Delhi State, Dr. Neelam Bala, Secretary, Animal Welfare Board India and Shri Wajahat Habib Ullah, Ex Chairman Minority Commission of India. Before taking the Award, Prof. Kaang expressed her views about Guru Nanak’s wide concept of education of strengthing innerself and to do welfare to the society. She was there at the function as a guest of honor also. Dr. Kaang had been conferred ‘ Punjab Rattan Award’ at 38 All India Intellectual Conference Delhi in 2018. She has served the Department of Guru Nanak Sikh Studies as a chairperson for a long time and now she is serving there as an Academic Incharge of the Department. Dr. Kaang also served as the Chairperson of University School of Open Learning, Dean of Languages and Dean design & Fine Arts faculty of Panjab University. She remained President of PUTA (Panjab University Teacher Association) and was also the member of Senate for two terms. She had also contributed as a member of Punjabi Advisory Board of Sahitya Akademi (Govt. of India). Dr. Kaang has written seventeen books and near about hundred research papers. She has just visited Wolverhampton University of UK to present a paper on ‘Poetic Sensibility of Guru Nanak’. At the occasion of Award ceremony she was presented a momento & citation of honour.
