Panjab University Celebrates World Intellectual Property Day

Intellectual Property Rights (IPR) cell and Centre for Industry Institute Partnership
Programme (CIIPP) of Panjab University (PU), Chandigarh in association with Patent
Information Cell (PIC) of Punjab State Council for Science and Technology (PSCST),
Chandigarh today celebrated 15th World IP Day in the Seminar hall of the Department of
Microbiology at PU with the theme: “Get up, Stand up. For Music”.
The programme started at 11 AM and was attended by over 100 participants consisting of
students and faculty members of PU and Neighboring institutes. The function commenced
with the welcome address by the Nodal Officer and Director, CIIPP Prof. S.K. Soni who
highlighted the importance of Intellectual Property and introduced the salient features
of the function. 
Dean Research Prof. L.K. Bansal who was the chief guest of the function, acquainted the
audience with various steps being taken by PU to promote innovative research in PU.
Incharge, Patent Information Centre, PSCST, Gurharminder Singh in his key note
address introduced various IPRs and the importance their importance in the field of Arts
with a special reference to music. He also made the audience aware about the penalties
and punishments in case of copyright infringement with shared many examples and case
studies on piracy and copyright violation. He also talked about the facilities provided
by PSCST to the researchers of the region for the filing IPR applications and made the
audience with the various new policies adopted by Technology Information, Forecasting &
Assessment Council (TIFAC), Department of Science and Technology (DST), Govt. of India
with respect to the assistance provided in the filing of IPRs through PSCST. 
PU Coordinator, Policy Research Centre, Director, CIL and Coordinator, University
Innovation Cluster in Biotechnology Prof. Rupinder Tewari motivated the audience for
adopting genuine ways of conducting Research and innovations. PU Coordinator, Research
Promotion Cell Prof. Sanjay Chhibber emphasized upon the need of innovative approach to
improve the quality of research for translation into technology. This was followed by a
panel discussion on the various aspects of  IPR related issues which included the
address  to the queries  by the panelists comprising  Gurharminder Singh, Dr. Divya
Kaushik from PSCST,  Prof. Rupinder Tewari, Prof. Prince Sharma and Prof. S.K. Soni from
PU. 
The final segment of the function was a quiz competition among the participants in which
questions related to IPRs were asked and the participants were awarded for each correct
answer. The function concluded after a vote of thanks by Prof. S.K. Soni. / (SK Vyas, Jalandhar)
