Panjab University Board of Finance approves proposal for English Proficiency Course in Department of English and Cultural Studies

Chandigarh, November 15, 2016: Panjab University (PU) Board of Finance (BoF) today approved the proposal for English Proficiency Course (EPC) in the Department of English and Cultural Studies.
There would be 20 courses and each course would contain 25 students per course.
PU Vice Chancellor Prof Arun Kumar Grover presided over the BoF meeting. The meeting was attended by the Registrar Col. G.S. Chadha (Retd.), Dean University Instructions Prof Dinesh Gupta, UT IAS Officer Mr. Jitender Yadav, UGC representative and UGC Deputy Director (Internal Audit) Mr. R.C. Bhatt, Finance & Development Officer Mr. Vikram Nayyar, Punjab Government, Syndicate and Senate representatives.
PU Spokesperson informed that the EPC course is compulsory for the international students hence the office of Dean International Students joined hands with the PU Department of English for running the course. The Department of English has been running the EPC and gained popularity over the years. Keeping with up gradation, certain structural changes have been made in the course. It has also been proposed to provide an online platform for one year to every student for continued inputs
from the course, he added.
PU BoF sanctioned Rs. 17 lakh for purchase of books and journals at the PU Dental Institute. The books and journals are to be purchased in compliance with the requirement of Dental Council of India and would be purchased out of PU Development
Fund.
BoF also approved the proposal to sanction Rs. 8.41 lakh for drainage system of Dingle Estate building and Three bridges building of PU Guest House at Shimla.
The funds would be spent from the ‘Teachers Holiday Home Fund’.
The PU BoF also deferred the agenda to sanction the budget provisions and teaching and non-teaching positions for newly established PU Constituent Colleges at Dharamkot and Ferozepur for the session 2016-17. In its comments on the agenda item,
the Ministry of Human Resource Development, Government of India has observed that the full deficit of these two constituent colleges should be met by the Punjab Government and no financial liabilities should be passed on to the Central government on this account. The BoF asked the PU VC to pursue the MoU with the Punjab Government so that the financial responsibilities for running the two new constituent colleges were formally accepted by the Punjab Government.
