Chandigarh, May 24, 2016: Panjab University (PU), Chandigarh and the Deakin University (Australia) today signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) to establish a cooperative relationship for developing and fostering academic links between the two leading Universities of India and Australia. The MoU has set out the framework for the cooperative relationship between the PU and Deakin University.
Deakin University is ranked 301 -350 in Times Higher Education Rankings 2015-16 and 324 in the 2015-16 QS World University Rankings.
The Deakin University delegation led by Dean of Medicine, Professor Jon Watson (JW) visited PU and met the PU Vice Chancellor Prof Arun Kumar Grover and University officials. Professor Alister Ward (AW) and Professor Jagat Kanwar (JK) were also part of the delegation that later visited PGI Chandigarh and other Chandigarh Region Innovation & Knowledge Cluster (CRIKC). First Secretary Trade & Economics, Australian High Commission Ms Tanya Shanti Spisbah also attended the meeting at PU.
PU VC Prof Arun Kumar Grover said that the Government of India desires that research universities should engage the best of the universities and PU was fortunate that the other reputed Universities were reaching it. The engagements have to be serious and intense, which should fructify, he added.
The two sides discussed about the areas of mutual interest and future prospects. The visiting delegation also gave a presentation about the Deakin University. PU Director Research Promotion Cell Prof OP Katare gave presentation about PU.
As per the MoU, the two universities would discuss opportunities for the academic staff collaboration in research, teaching & learning in areas of common interest and general academic collaboration including the exchange of educational resource materials & publications. The two institutions have agreed to discuss opportunities development and implementation of student mobility programs; development and implementation of staff exchange programs; and identification of special short-term academic programs & projects of mutual benefit to both institutions.
