Ludhiana, July 15, 2016: The previous Congress governments at centre have always meted step motherly treatment towards Punjab regarding distribution of river waters. Punjab state is foodgrain bowl of the country and for safeguarding its river waters, all Punjabis should join hands and remain vigilant.
This was said by Punjab Irrigation Minister Mr Sharanjit Singh Dhillon while addressing the Panchayat's of Ludhiana district at a function organised at Guru Nanak Dev Bhawan, here today. This function was organised regarding the issue of Punjab waters before the submission of memorandum in the name of President and Prime Minister to the Deputy Commissioner, Ludhiana.
Mr Dhillon also appreciated the resolutions passed by several panchayats of Ludhiana district and submitting memorandums to President and Prime Minister to save the Punjab waters. He said that only the Congress party is to be blamed for this serious issue, because they have always meted step motherly treatment towards Punjab and that is why Punjabis would reject this party for the third time in a row. He said that SYL Canal is a living example of that because Punjab does not have even a single drop to spare. He said that the Akali Dal had always opposed the construction of this canal and would do same even now and would not allow the construction of this canal. Mr Dhillon said that water is a basic necessity of life and any such move against the state would destroy it.
While issuing an appeal to the President and Prime Minister of India, Mr Sharanjit Singh Dhillon requested them to look into the matter and give justice to Punjab. He urged them to decide this matter as per the law of Riparian Rights. Later, representatives of all panchayat's submitted a memorandum addressed to President and Prime Minister with Deputy Commissioner Mr Ravi Bhagat.
Prominent among those present on the occasion included Chief Parliamentary Secretary Mr Darshan Singh Shivalik, Punjab Subordinate Services Selection Board chairman Mr Santa Singh Umedpuri, MLAs Mr Manpreet Singh Ayali, Mr Ranjit Singh Dhillon and Mr SR Kler, former minister Mr Hira Singh Gabria, former minister Mr Jagdish Singh Garcha, former CPS Mr Bikramjit Singh Khalsa, former MLA Mr Ranjit Singh Talwandi, former MLA Mr Jagjiwan Singh Khirnia, Punjab Traders Board vice chairman Mr Madan Lal Bagga, Bhai Gurcharan Singh Grewal, SAD District President Mr Harbhajan Singh Dang, ex MP Mr Amrik Singh Aliwal, besides a large number of Shiromani Akali Dal and Youth Akali Dal leaders.
