PALS Instructor Course conducted at DMCH

Ludhiana, September 22, 2012: Department of Pediatrics today organised Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS)Instructor Course for training young pediatricians about the important concepts of basic life support including PALS treatment algorithms, effective resuscitation and team dynamics.

The goal of the PALS Course is to improve the quality of care provided to seriously ill or injured children, resulting in improved outcomes.

Professor and Head of Pediatrics- Dr.Harmesh Singh Bains welcomed the faculty and introduced the course faculty to the participants. The faculty included Dr Harmesh Singh Bains, Dr Jayashree, Dr Daljit Singh,Dr Puneet Aulakh Pooni,Dr Sukhmeet, Dr Bhavneet

During the course, the participants were given hands-on training for actions to be undertaken for saving the life of a patient, when no medical facility or equipment is available.

The programme includes the technique of CPR (cardiopulmonary resuscitation) in adults, children and infants, with one or two rescuers, the method of giving rescue breaths and bag-mast ventilation, chest compressions and use of AED (Automated External Defibrillator).

The participating teams were given lectures through power point presentation followed by video presentations, hands-on practice for various skills and interactive session with the participants. The course basically deals with RAP ABC which means checking for responsiveness, airways (opening the airway), position of the victim, activating emergency system, giving breathing and circulation by chest compressions. Guidelines for taking care of a choking child and infant were given.
