ORIENTATION COURSE ON EFFECTIVE, TEACHING, RESEARCH AND EXTENSION CONCLUDES AT PAU

Ludhiana, November 20, 2017: The ten day Orientation course on Effective, Teaching, Research and Extension, organized by the Department of Extension Education & Communication Management, College of Home Science, PAU, concluded here on 17thNovember. Thirty one faculty members from different departments,Krishi Vigyan Kendrasand Regional Research Stations of PAU attended the course that included lectures, practical sessions and discussions by experts from different departments of PAU, retired faculty members and other organizations. Interactive sessions on formulating instructional objectives, designing instructional framework, planning and selecting evaluation techniques were held to orient the participants regarding teaching. Lectures on identification and prioritization of research areas, besides writing winning research proposals were delivered. Practical sessions on PRA techniques for building rapport with the farmers/ farm families, technology dissemination techniques, photography skills, videography, use of print and mass media etc. were held. Participants were made aware of university policies, administrative rules, service rules and semester rules. A visit to the Library and Centre for Communication and International Languages at PAU was undertaken to facilitate understanding in teaching, research and extension. Communication, interpersonal skills, motivational techniques, stress management, personal accountability were some of the other areas for which sessions by experts were held.

On the concluding day, participants presented a video prepared by them on various sessions of the course. Dean, College of Home Science, PAU, Dr. J. K. Gulati, and also the Chief Guest of the function, highlighted the challenges faced by PAU. She stressed upon the need to improve communication and interpersonal skills, quality of research papers and rapport with the farming community. Dr. Kiranjot Sidhu, Sr. Scientist cum Head of department motivated the participants to work hard to rise in their professional career and enhance the glorious reputation of PAU. At the end, certificates were distributed to all the participants on successful completion of the course.
