ORDER: Punjab Govt. orders rice millers to complete milling till march next

Chandigarh, November 20, 2012: The Punjab government today issued strict instructions for the Rice millers to complete the Milling process of produce of current paddy season till March 31, failing which legal action would be taken against the erring Rice Millers.

Disclosing this here today, Satwant Singh Johal, Commissioner, Food and Civil Supplies said that specific instructions have also been issued to the Rice Millers to make arrangement for the milling of the 20 lac MT paddy, which is already lying in the Rice Mills from the last season, till December 31, 2012.

He further said that the Punjab government is committed to complete the milling of paddy in the stipulated time frame. He said that Adaish Partap Singh Kairon, Food and Civil Supplies Minister has reviewed the status of Paddy procurement and milling.

Johal said that Punjab government has decided to lower the milling capacity of all those rice mills which are storing the less paddy than its allotted capacity. He said that pursing this direction of the Punjab Government the milling capacity of 47 mills has been lowered. He said that despite this some of the rice millers are refusing to store paddy as per their allotted limit. He said that under these conditions the Punjab government has taken decision to lower the milling capacity of all these erring rice mills.
