Ophthalmology Teaching Course for Ophthalmic Officers

Ludhiana, October 18, 2019: The Department of Ophthalmology, Christian Medical College & Hospital, Ludhiana, in association with The World Sight Foundation, London under the auspices of Punjab Medical Council, organized an Ophthalmology Teaching Course for Ophthalmic Officers of the Punjab Government Health System along with postgraduate students from 17th to 19th October, 2019 in the hospital auditorium and department of ophthalmology.

The World Sight Foundation is a London based organization which conducts hands on teaching courses and workshops for young ophthalmologists, ophthalmic officers and optometrists in different countries all around the globe. The optometrists and ophthalmic officers are usually the first to come in contact with the patients with any problem related to eyes. The organization wishes those who attend to be the architects of their own professional development for the benefit of those they serve. Through the interactive lectures and clinical sessions, the International speakers added to the knowledge on commonly encountered ophthalmic diseases of adults and children and updated skills in the examination of adults and children.

Dr. Anthony Chignell, Chairman of WSF gave lectures and clinical demonstrations on various common ophthalmological problems. He was accompanied by Dr. Michael Eckstein, Dr. William Green, Dr. Richard Markham, Prof. Clare Gilbert, Dr. Seema Verma and Mrs. Jane Tapley, all from UK whose insightful presentations enlightened more than 60 delegates attending the conference. The event was graced by the presence of Dr. GVS Murthy, Director, IIPH Hyderabad who spoke about diabetic retinopathy.

The Inauguration function was attended by Dr. Areet Kaur, State Programme Officer, NPCB, Chandigarh who applauded the efforts of the department in organizing such an informative conference-cum-workshop. Dr. Rajesh Kumar Bagga, Civil Surgeon, Ludhiana was invited as the guest of honour.

The event was attended by the Administrative heads of CMCL, including the Director Dr. William Bhatti, Principal, Dr. Jeyaraj D Pandian and the Medical Superintendent, Dr. Anil Luther among others.
