Open four more stalls to sell onions and potatos at control price- Patil

The Punjab Governor and Administrator, Union Territory, Chandigarh, Shivraj V. Patil presiding over a high level meeting of senior officers of the Chandigarh Administration to ensure the supply of onion and potato at reasonable rates at Punjab Raj Bhavan on Thursday.

Chandigarh, July 3, 2014:  The Punjab Governor and Administrator, Union Territory, Chandigarh, Shivraj V.Patil today presided over a high level meeting of senior officers of the Chandigarh Administration and asked them to ensure the supply of onion and potato at reasonable rates by checking hoarding of these essential items.
Patil asked the officers of Food & Supply, Department and Manimajra Cooperative Society to install at least four more stalls at different visible locations in the City like ‘Apni Mandi’ to sell onion and potato at controlled rates. He also asked them to arrange Mobile Van to sell these items from sector to sector and also make announcement to create awareness among the general public.      He asked them to maintain record of arrival of Onion & Potato and their Retail and Whole rates.  
The Administrator said that three Sub-Divisional Level Committees have already been constituted comprising SDM, SHOs, Inspector Food Supply, Mandi Supervisor and Marketing Supervisor to check the rates and storage of these items.
The Administrator also give directions to the Police Department to make surprise checking in civil to check the storage and rates of these items.
Balbir Singh Dhol, Joint Secretary Agriculture Marketing Board ensured the Administrator that they will work as per his expectations and also apprised him that we are receiving Onion from Rajasthan, Nasik and Indore while local and Pahari Potatos. He said in the coming days the arrival of these items will increase and the rates of these items will further reduce.
Prominent amongst others who were present on the occasion included Principal Secretary to Governor, M.P. Singh, Home Secretary, Anil Kumar, Finance Secretary, Sarabjit Singh, SSP, Sukhchain Singh Gill, SDM, Danish SDM, Kashish Mittal.
