Ludhiana, October 30, 2019: Under the Mission Tandrust Punjab of the Punjab government and in a bid to save our environment, the state government is providing subsidy to farmers on farm machinery for in-situ management of paddy straw.
This subsidy is being provided for purchasing Super SMS to be fitted on combine harvesters, happy seeder, zero till drill, paddy straw chopper, paddy straw multure, reversible hydraulic MB plough etc.
While providing information, Deputy Commissioner Mr Pradeep Kumar Agrawal informed that this season, no combine harvester is being allowed to operate without the Super SMS fitted on it. He said that if any person violates this rule, then strict legal action would be taken against the combine owners.
Chief Agriculture Officer Ludhiana Mr Baldev Singh urged the farmers as well as the combine harvester owners to not violate this rule. He further informed that in district Ludhiana, harvesting of paddy crop is done mainly by using combine harvesters. And when Super SMS is fitted on the back side of combine, it chops the paddy straw into very small pieces, which makes it easier for other machines to operate in the fields.
He also informed that with the use of Super SMS in harvesting, direct sowing of wheat can be done easily by using the happy seeder, which leads to saving of both time and money. He said that the in-situ management of paddy straw can be done in the field itself. He urged the farmers not to set paddy straw on fire as it pollutes our environment and reduces soil fertility.
He further informed that more than 400 Super SMS have been provided to the farmers/combine harvester operators on subsidy in district Ludhiana and this year also, 105 applications for the purchase of Super SMS have been approved for subsidy by the Punjab government, and 56 out of them have already been provided subsidy.
