Chandigarh, July 5, 2016: One month summer vacations course on Basics in Fashion Designing concluded today at Department of Life Long Learning & Extension (DLLL&E), Panjab University (PU), Chandigarh.
Under the skill development program, the DLLL&E Department has organized one month summer vacations course for SC/ST/OBC and minority communities and wards of the university employees and students in two batches. The main objective of the program was to develop self learning skills in fashion designing. The course has been organized in the department from 1st June to 2nd July, 2016 completing of 26 working days.
As many as 58 students successfully completed the course. 80 students had enrolled in the program.
While inaugurating the valedictory session of the course, PU Director IQAC Cell Prof. Rajiv Lochan said that in Indian history fashion designing as always been treated as the art of application of design and aesthetics to natural beauty to clothing and accessories. Fashion designing had always influenced by cultural and social attitudes, and has varied over time and place. Fashion designers work in a number of ways in designing clothing and accessories such as bracelets and necklace in olden time. Because of the time required to bring a garment into the market, designers must at times anticipate changes to consumer tastes and fashion designing in clothing emerge as a biggest industry in India, he added.
Prof. Khalid Mohammed from the Department of Evening Studies said that in the age of globalization skill development has an important role in the life of youth. The skill the participants have learnt in the program put it on the website which may be utilized in the fashion industries where the creative art have an important place and give them employment opportunities in the field of Fashion designing. Well prepared cultural program has been organized by the participants in the valedictory function.
Chairperson of the department Mrs Renu Gandhi read out the roster of the training program which include Tie and Dye, Block painting, Spun painting, Embroidery, Fabric painting and Stencil painting and as an practical part of the training program and for the personality program the topics covered are fashion designing and self esteem, fashion designing and emotional instability in youth today, communication skills, art & nature inspiration as fashion designing and embroidery as a way of life.
Mrs Renu Gandhi expressed her gratitude towards the resource persons who help them to make the program a success especially Prof. Swaranjit Kaur coordinator of UIFT for providing us the Lab and necessary material to run the program smoothly. Prof.Anu H Gupta, UIFT&VD, P.U.,Chd., Prof. Tirathankar Bhattacharya, Deptt.of History Arts and Visual Arts, P.U.,Chd. Mrs. Urvashi Bhatia, Motivational Speaker, Prof.Simrita form NIIFT, Mohali who acted as an key resource persons.
The certificates were distributed to the Resource persons and participants who have completed the successful course. The exhibition of their work has been displayed and the prizes were given to the students.
