Jalandhar, August 9, 2019: PG Department of Journalism and Mass Communication of Doaba College organized one day workshop on Science Journalism in collaboration with Pushpa Gujral Science City, Kapurthala.

Dr.Rajesh Grover- Director Pushpa Gujral Science City graced the occasion for the inaugural address, Dr.Manoj Kumar Patairiya, Director, CSIR-NISCAIR, New Delhi, and Dr.Rintu Nath-Scientist-F, Vigyan Prasar, DoST Govt. of India as keynote speakers,

Chander Mohan-President Arya Shiksha Mandal and College Managing Committee as Chief Guest. The dignitaries were accorded a hearty welcome by Principal Dr. Naresh Kumar Dhimna, Dr. Simran Sidhu, Head, Prof. Sandeep Chahal-Staff Secretary, members of Science faculty of college and 150 students.

The workshop covered the key issues in Science Writing and Communication, Good Practices in Science Journalism, Nature of Scientific process, challenges for science journalists, depth and clarity about various information of the various fields of science required for news reporting based on innovations of science in print and electronic media. Chief Guest Sh. Chander Mohan said that it is sad that scientific temper has not developed a great deal in the country, that is why people are engrossed in superstitions and irrevalent myths.
Dr. Rajesh Grover said that only scientific temper can safeguard the country from the malice of hunger and poverty. In current scenario science communication and science journalism can play a significant role in the society to develop the spirit of scientific inquiry amongst the populace.

Dr. Manoj Kumar Patairiya said that in 1984 there was a sad incident of Bhopal Gas Tragedy in which the Leakage of poisonous gas engulfed thousands of lives. If the people were timely intimated about a simple scientific principle that this poisonous gas was soluble in water and if people had covered there face with any water soaked cloth piece then many lives could have been saved. He said that inspite of heavy science pool and science establishments nearly 96 percent of precision technology is imported from developed countries.

Dr. Rintu Nath opined that we should developed scientific in masses so that with appreciation of science, logical thinking people are able to differentiate between myth, superstitions and truth. He also discussed in detail about scientific policy of resolution 1958 and science and technology policy 2003
