One day Training Programme for SHG leaders and members conducted by NABARD

Kapurthala, November 30, 2017: National Bank for Agriculture and Rural Development (NABARD) conducted one day training programme for group leaders and members of Self Help Groups (SHGs) at Kapurthala on 30 November 2017. The SHG group leaders and members were trained in concept and objective of SHGs, importance of regular record keeping, advantages of internal lending, book keeping, income generating activities, financial services for members of SHGs & micro insurance etc.

Shri Karamjit Singh, Lead District Manager inaugurated the programme and apprised the gathering about the concept of the Self Help Group (SHG) programme. He also emphasized about proper record keeping of the SHG’s accounts so that banks may finance them keeping in view their credit worthiness.

Shri Rakesh, District Development Manager, NABARD sensitized the group leaders about the importance of regular record keeping, regular saving, regular inter-loaning, financial services, repayment ethics, micro insurance products and importance of bank linkage. He motivated the participants to utilize the scheme benefits of financial institutions. Besides, the SHG members were motivated to adopt some key economic activities besides agriculture, in order to achieve higher income levels, with a vision to double farmer’s income by 2022.

Shri Heera Singh, representative from ManavVikasSansthan, an NGO who is promoting and nurturing these SHGs with financial support from NABARD has trained the group leaders on book keeping, annual accounts and audit.

The core objective of the training to the group leaders was better understanding of important features and functions of SHG including record keeping, accounting, conduct of regular meetings, group dynamics and assist the SHGs for improvement and sustainable livelihood of their members.

On this occasion Shri Gursharan Singh, CEO, SARDS, Shri Joga Singh Atwal, CEO, BCS, Shri Paramjit Singh, Director, RSETI, Smt. Jasvir Kaur, Animator were also present and guided the SHG members.
