On occasion of Gandhi Jayanti, shanti marches organised in different parts of Ludhiana district
Ludhiana, October 2, 2019: On the occasion of 150th Birth Anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi, the District Administration organised a “Shanti March” from Guru Nanak Stadium to Rose Garden, here today. Several other Shanti Marches were also organised in different parts of the district today, in which thousands of people participated. The Shanti March at Guru Nanak Stadium was flagged off by Deputy Commissioner Pradeep Kumar Agrawal. He was also accompanied by SDM (East) Amarjit Singh Bains, DPRO Prabhdeep Singh Nathowal, DEO Swaranjit Kaur, District Sports Officer Ravinder Singh, MC Zonal Commissioner Neeraj Jain, MC Health Officer Dr Vipul Malhotra, Chief Sanitary Inspector Bantu Singh, besides a large number of city residents and students. While addressing the gathering before the start of the Shanti March, Pradeep Kumar Agrawal said that Mahatma Gandhi always taught us to follow the path of Ahimsa and truth and work towards maintaining peace and communal harmony. He said that there is a need to spread the teachings and messages of Mahatma Gandhi amongst masses. On this occasion, he also congratulated the residents on the birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi and urged them to contribute in nation building. He also spoke about great leader Lal Bahadur Shastri, whose birth anniversary also falls today. He appealed to the residents of district Ludhiana to develop a plastic free society and said that they should try to decrease the use of plastic on day to day basis, because our environment is getting damaged due to excessive use of plastic. He said that all sections of society should join hands for this cause, and appealed the residents to support district administration. This Shanti March started from Guru Nanak Stadium, passed through Fountain Chowk, College Road, before culminating at Nehru Rose Garden. Several such Shanti Marches were also organised in different towns and villages of district Ludhiana today.
