Obesity Support Meet held at DMCH

Ludhiana, September 23, 2017: Obesity Support Meet was organized today in Dumra Auditorium. Bariatric Surgeons-Dr Ashish Ahuja and Dr PS Nain were key note speakers during the meet.
According to Dr Ahuja, Obesity is becoming one of the major health-related diseases around the world. With growing urbanization and change in life style, obesity has affected many of Indian population. According to the recent study, obesity in India has reached epidemic proportions in the 21st century, with morbid obesity affecting around 5% of the country's population
In his lecture, Dr PS Nain also elaborated on the health problems pertaining to obesity. Dietician Simrat Kathuria also told the audience about the required diet intake needed for leading normal life and also about the diet which has to be taken after undergoing weight loss surgery.
During the meet, around 60 people from different walks of life had come to attend the meet. In this group, there were also those people who shared their experiences of getting their weight loss surgery successfully done at DMCH.
A patient Shashi Bala, age 53 years aid that before getting treated for problems pertaining to morbid obesity, she was facing lot of problems and could not afford to carry on her normal routine. After consulting Dr Ashish Ahuja, the patient underwent weight loss surgery, she is now leading a normal life.
Medical Supdt Dr Sandeep Sharma said that DMCH is having state-of-art equipments and facilities for undertaking weight loss surgery. He congratulated a team of Dr Ashish Ahuja and Dr PS Nain in organizing this support meet for the benefit of those suffering from the problem of excessive overweight.
