NSS UNITS AWARDED BY MINISTRY OF YOUTH AFFAIRS & SPORTS AT PU

Chandigarh, May 10, 2017: The Department of NSS, Panjab University, organised Unit Award function to confer the National Young Leaders Programme Awards for honouring the units associated with PU. Four colleges from Punjab and Chandigarh were awarded cash prizes, by Nehru Yuva Kendra Sangathan under aegis of Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports, Government of India.
The four colleges/units received cash awards. The first prize of Rs.40,000/- was conferred to Dev Samaj College of Education, Sector 36, Chandigarh while the second prize of Rs. 35,000/- was conferred to Programme Officer from the
Center for Social Work, P.U., Chandigarh. The DAV Sector-10, received Rs. 30,000/- and A.S. College, Khanna, received Rs. 25,000/- as third and fourth prize respectively.
Mrs. Navdeep Sharma, Programme Coordinator, Panjab University, presented the Annual Report of NSS activities carried out by the campus units. Vikas Kinha, President Awardee (2015) and Sandeep, Indira Gandhi Awardee (2015-16) were also felicitated during the function for their excellent services for NSS.
The Programme Officers from the Panjab University, Chandigarh Dr. Anupreet Kaur Mavi, Dr. Amrinder Singh, Dr. Vijayta Chadha, Dr. Purva Mishra, Dr. Sanjeev Gautam, Dr. Parveen Sheron, Gaurav Gaur, Pawan Kumar, Dr. Vijay Lakshmi,
Nirmal Singh, and Jeesu Jaskanwar Singh got award of appreciation during the function.
Further, the first ever NSS contingent consisting of 20 students who participated in the Republic day parade at Panjab University were also felicitated during the function. Three students from Govt. College of Commerce and Business
Management, Sector 50, were also honoured for receiving award from Ministry of MHRD for their contributions in Digital India and Cashless schemes.
Prof. Ronki Ram, from the Department of Political Science, PU, addressed the NSS volunteers and officials about the importance of social service. Sh. Jatinder Yadav, Director Higher Education, Chandigarh motivated the NSS Volunteers with words of wisdom. The cultural programme and skit on Swachh Bharat were also performed during the function. Col. (Retd.) G.S. Chadha, Registrar, Panjab University, Chandigarh also graced the occasion and commended the work done by the
NSS volunteers associated with Panjab University.
