Amritsar, January 2, 2015: A seven Day Camp of N.S.S concluded here on Thursday in Conference Hall of the Guru Nanak Dev University. As many as 30 volunteers from various departments of the University participated in this camp. A tree plantation drive was also initiated in the Campus which will continue throughout the year. Garments from Campus were collected and distributed to the needy in the Campus, Khalsa College Campus, Orphanage, Pingalwara and Blind Institute.
Dean Students welfare, A.S.Sidhu presided over the Valedictory function. Dr.Vinay Kapoor Head Law Department welcomed the chief guest and others. Camp Coordinators Unit I - Bimal Deep Singh gave details about the camp and and Unit II under Rajesh Kumar, Programme Officers presented vote of thanks. Sidhu gave certificates and medals for participation and appreciation certificates to the participants.
Participants P.S. Brar, Amandeep Kaur, Gurjinder Kaur etc. were given Best Volunteer awards. Gurjinder Kaur presented a report of the various activities undertaken by N.S.S. Volunteers during the Camp. Earlier this camps was inaugurated by Registrar Dr. Sharanjit Singh Dhillon.
While addressing the volunteers, Sidhu encouraged the students to be eco friendly, keep the surroundings clean, help children to remain in schools and to exist in Social groups for becoming better citizens.
H.P. Singh gave health, hygiene & cleanliness tips to N.S.S. volunteers. He also encouraged the students to donate blood on a regular basis. A General Medical Check-up Camp in the University Health Centre was also held.
A Rally of the students to the nearby villages on Ram Tirath Road to educate the people and encourage them to end the Social evils like dropping of the Children from schools, child labour, female foeticide, domestic violence and not to take to drugs. They also spread the message of cleanliness in the University Campus and these villages.
The N.S.S. Camp has been organized from 26.12.2014 to 01.01.2015 by Unit I under Bimal Deep Singh and N.S.S. Unit II under Rajesh Kumar (Programme Officers), with the active involvement of A. S. Brar, Vice-Chancellor, N.S.S. Coordinator Dr. Sukhpal Singh. The volunteers from various departments of Guru Nanak Dev University participated in the camp.
